Custom fields

Custom fields let you store extra information that Zid doesn't have a field for, such as a production date, an expiry date, usage instructions or a size chart. You define the fields once in Products > Custom fields, then fill in their values on each product, category or extra page.

Custom fields depend on your plan. Staff members need the permission to view custom fields to open the page, and the permission to manage them to create, edit, delete or switch fields on and off. Charity (NGO) stores don't have custom fields.

Turn on custom fields

If custom fields are switched off for your store, the page shows Enable custom fields.

  1. Go to Products > Custom fields.

  2. Select Enable. The message Metafields have been activated successfully confirms it.

To switch custom fields off for the whole store, select Disabled at the top of the page.

The custom fields list

The list has three tabs, one for each place a custom field can belong to:

TabWhere the fields appear
ProductsThe Custom fields section of every product page.
CategoriesThe Custom fields card of every category form.
Extra pagesThe form of every extra page in your online store.
ColumnWhat it shows
NameThe field's name. Select it to edit the field.
TypeThe field type, such as Text or Date.
Used inHow many products, categories or pages use the field.
StatusA switch that turns the field on or off. A field that is off doesn't appear on product pages.
ActionsDelete and Edit.

Drag fields up or down to change their order. The order is saved straight away.

Delete removes a field straight away, without asking you to confirm.

Create a custom field

  1. Go to Products > Custom fields and select Create.

  2. Choose where the field belongs: Products, Categories or Extra pages.

  3. Fill in the fields described below.

  4. Select Create. You return to the list on the tab you chose.

Define a table field

When you choose Table, define its columns:

  1. Fill in Field Name - Arabic (required) and Field Name - English for the first column.

  2. Optionally enter a Field Slug for the column.

  3. Choose the column's Field type: Text, Date, Time, Number, Image or File.

  4. Select Add column for each extra column. Drag columns to reorder them, or delete one with its delete icon.

After you create a table field, you can still rename its columns, but you can't add, delete or reorder columns or change their slug or type.

Edit a custom field

  1. Select the field's name or Edit.

  2. Change the name, slug or Display in settings.

  3. Select Edit at the top of the page to save.

Fill in custom fields on a product

  1. Open a product from Products > All products.

  2. Expand Custom fields at the bottom of the main column.

  3. Fill in the values. Every product custom field that is switched on appears here.

  4. Select Save product.

For a table field, select Add row to add a row and use the delete icon to remove one. To manage the fields themselves, select Custom fields settings in the section.

Category custom fields work the same way in the category form. See Product categories.
