Gifting settings
Gifting lets customers buy a product for someone else, add a personal message and a gift card in your store's style, and have it delivered as a gift. You set it up in Settings > General > Gifting settings, where the page opens with the title Gifting.
The new gifting system is rolling out to selected stores. To join the pilot, contact Zid support. Other stores see the older page described in Older gift options page.
To open gifting settings, a staff member needs the permission to view gift options. To change them, they need the permission to manage gift options. Creating and editing gift add-ons also needs the permission to edit and delete products.
Activate gifting
When gifting is off, the page shows an overview of what gifting offers.
Go to Settings > General > Gifting settings.
Select Activate gifting (or Activate at the top of the page).
Once gifting is on, the page shows four tabs: Global settings, Gift add-ons, Gift categories and Message templates.
Then set up gifting in this order: create gift categories if you want to group card designs by occasion (optional), add your card designs in Gift add-ons, customize the gift card under Gift card messages, and add Message templates to help customers write.
Customers then see gifting at checkout. It also shows on the cart page in themes that support it, as Zid's themes do; for a custom or third-party theme, ask its developer to add it.
Changes to gifting settings apply to gift cards customers start after you save. Orders already placed keep their gift details.
Deactivate gifting
Select Deactivate at the top of the Global settings tab.
In the Deactivate gifting dialog, select Deactivate to confirm.
Gifting options disappear from your store. Your designs, categories, message templates and card settings stay saved, so everything comes back when you activate gifting again.
Global settings
The Global settings tab holds the Gifting configuration card. Each switch saves as soon as you change it.
| Setting | What it does | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Gift card messages | Sets the gift card's style and the fields customers fill in. | Customize opens the gift card builder. |
| Gifting notification settings | Sets the text messages sent to the gift's sender about the order's progress. | Customize opens Status messages. |
| Suggested message template | Lets customers pick a ready-made message instead of writing one. Turn it on, then add the messages in Message templates. | Create options opens Message templates. |
| Custom card design | Lets customers upload their own design for the gift card instead of choosing one of yours. | Switch only. |
| Request the shipping address from the recipient | Customers can place a gift order without the recipient's address. Zid then asks the recipient for it. | Customize sets the address collection fee. |

Set the gift status messages
In Gifting notification settings, select Customize.
In Status messages, write the Message when the order is ready and the Message when the order is completed. Each message is optional and holds up to 127 characters.
Select Save.
Status messages go out as text messages and use your order SMS balance, so they are sent only while you have balance. See Order notifications.
Ask the recipient for the shipping address
Turn on Request the shipping address from the recipient.
To charge for this service, select Customize.
In Customize Address Collection Fee, enter the Address Collection Fee. It is added to the base shipping cost. Enter 0 to charge only the base shipping cost. The fee accepts up to four decimal places.
Select Save.
The address request reaches the recipient by text message and uses your order SMS balance. If the balance runs out, the message is not sent, so keep enough balance while this option is on.
Design the gift card
The gift card builder sets how the printed gift card looks and which details it carries.
In Global settings, select Customize under Gift card messages.
Change the settings in the Gift card builder panel. The preview next to it updates as you go.
Select Save at the top of the page.
To go back without saving, select the exit icon at the top of the page.

| Setting | Options and rules |
|---|---|
| Text color | The color of the card's text. |
| Selected card background: | Color, with a Containers background color, or Image, where you upload a PNG, JPG or JPEG under Select image. |
| Choose the card size: | Small (A6) 10.5 × 14.8 cm, Medium (A5) 14.8 × 21 cm or Large (A4) 21 × 29.7 cm. New cards start at Large (A4). |
| Card padding | The space inside the card's edges: Left, Right, Top and Bottom, each from 0 to 120. |
| Select visible fields | The details printed on the card, explained below. |
Pick a text color that contrasts clearly with the background: light text on a light background can look fine on screen and disappear in print. A single color background is cleaner to print and easier to read; with an image background, use Containers background color to give the text a calm base.
Choose the size by how you pack the gift: Small (A6) for a card inside the box, Medium (A5) for longer messages, Large (A4) for large gifts and formal occasions. Don't set the padding to zero or close to it: cutting machines aren't exact, and a slight shift can cut off text.

Before your first print run, print one test card on your real paper and check the margins and colors.
Choose the card's fields
Select visible fields lists five fields: Store logo, Recipient name, Message, Sender name and QR code.
Turn a field's switch on to print it on the card, or off to leave it out.
Expand a field to set its Alignment: left, center or right.
For Recipient name, Message and Sender name, which customers fill in, turn on Required field to make customers complete it.
Drag a field by its handle to change the order of the fields on the card.
The customer's message holds up to 240 characters. The QR code takes the recipient to the customer's personal message, such as a video or audio link.

Recipient name prints at the top as "To:" followed by the name; making it required keeps every card addressed. Sender name prints under the message as "From:" followed by the name; leave it optional, since some people prefer to stay anonymous. Store logo prints at the bottom of the card. The QR code is added at no extra charge. Hiding a field removes it from the card and from the customer's form; turning off Required field keeps it visible but lets customers skip it.
Before you save, check that the text reads clearly on the background, the fields are in a sensible order (recipient, message, sender), only the fields you really need are required, and the padding leaves room for the print edges.
Gift add-ons
Gift add-ons are extra products customers can add to a gift, such as a greeting card, with their own price and stock. Manage them in the Gift add-ons tab.
Add-ons work differently from your other products in the store:
Customers find them only while they set up a gift. They don't appear in your product lists, categories or sitemap.
Tax and stock apply to them as to your other products.
A customer can add one of each add-on to an order.
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Name and SKU | The add-on's image, name and SKU. |
| Quantity | The available stock, or unlimited. |
| Price and Currency | The add-on's price. |
| Status | Whether the add-on is published or hidden. |
| Created date and Updated date | When the add-on was created and last changed. |
You can sort the list by Display order, Created date, Price or Status.
Create a gift add-on
In the Gift add-ons tab, select Create product.
In Create gift product, fill in the fields below.
Select Add.

Each card design is its own add-on: its image is the card cover customers see and that you print. Set the price to zero for a free card or charge for it; you can mix a simple free design with premium paid ones. Keep Product requires shipping on for printed cards that travel with the shipment, since they count toward weight and shipping.
| Field | Rules |
|---|---|
| Name | Required in Arabic. English is optional. |
| Category | Optional. Choose one of your gift categories. |
| Product image | Optional. PNG, JPG, JPEG or WEBP, up to 2 MB. |
| Price | Required. Zero or more, with up to two decimals. |
| Limited quantity | New add-ons start with this switch on and unlimited stock. Turn it off to show the Quantity field. |
| Quantity | A whole number. Appears only when the Limited quantity switch is off. |
| Product requires shipping | On by default. Turn it off for add-ons that are not shipped. |
| Published | On by default. Turn it off to hide the add-on from customers. |
Edit, hide or delete gift add-ons
To change one add-on, open its row menu and select Edit, Publish / hide or Delete. Deleting asks you to confirm.
To change several at once, select their rows, then choose Publish / hide or Delete from the bulk actions.
If gifting is on but customers see no designs, add at least one add-on and make sure it is published. If it belongs to a category, check that the category is shown in gifting.
Gift categories
Gift categories group your gifting experience by occasion, such as birthdays or graduations.
In the Gift categories tab, select Add category.
In Create category, enter the Category name. Arabic is required and English is optional.
Turn on Show in the gifting to make the category visible to customers.
Select Add.

The list shows each category's Name and Status (Active or Hidden). Use the switch in a row to show or hide the category, or the row menu to Edit or Delete it. Deleting asks you to confirm in Delete category.
Categories let customers browse cards by occasion. Use them when you have three or four occasions with many designs each; many categories with few designs make browsing harder.
Message templates
Message templates are ready-made messages customers can choose when they write their gift card. They appear to customers only while Suggested message template is on in Global settings.
In the Message templates tab, select Add message.
In Create message template, write the Message in Arabic, and in English if you sell in English. Arabic is required, and each language holds up to 250 characters.
Select Add.
The list shows Message (Arabic) and Message (English). Use a row's menu to Edit or Delete a template.

Customers open the templates from a link under the message field when they write their card. If your store sells in both languages, add each message in Arabic and English.
What customers see in your store
Once your settings are done, the customer:
Chooses to send the order as a gift, which opens the gift card window.
Picks a cover from your designs, grouped by category, each with its price or marked free.
Fills in the card: recipient name, sender name, the message (with a character counter, up to 240) and an optional link to a video or photo. Required fields carry a red asterisk and optional ones say optional; hidden fields don't appear. When you have message templates, a link offers suggested messages, and when Custom card design is on, a link lets them upload their own design.

Personal details are covered. Selects Preview to see the front (the cover) and the back (your message layout) side by side.
Saves the card, which appears in the cart with a gift tag, the names and the message. They can edit or remove it before paying.

A customer can add one of each gift add-on to an order. The labels customers see come from your store's theme and can differ from these examples.
See gift details on an order
A gift order's page shows who sent the gift, who receives it, the gift message and any attached link, and lets you print the gift card. See Customer and recipient.
Older gift options page
Some stores see Gift options in Settings > General instead of Gifting settings. On that page:
Select Activate at the top to turn gifting on, or Deactivate to turn it off after confirming.
In Additions to gifts, choose what customers can add: Add a message, Motivating customers to gift in store (a "send it as a gift" shortcut after adding a product to the cart), Add a video or audio link and Add a custom gift card design. With custom designs on, upload up to five card designs, each with a Gift card name and an image. View the gift card template shows a sample card you can download. For a sharp print, make each design A6 size, 1748 × 1240 pixels, as a JPEG or PNG file.
In Customize gifting status messages, choose Ready or Completed under Status customization and write the Status message, up to 127 characters. It is sent to the gift's sender when the order reaches that status.
Select Save at the top of the page.
The Status message field shows how many of its 127 characters you've used:

On the older page, customers see gifting like this:
With Motivating customers to gift in store on, customers who add a product to the cart see a "send it as a gift" shortcut with a button to continue.

Personal details are covered. Continuing takes them to checkout, where the gift option appears next to the purchase button.

Personal details are covered. When they mark the order as a gift, the additions you turned on appear: the sender's name, the message and the recipient's name, with buttons to preview and save the gift details. The products are wrapped as a gift with a gift card, and the invoice is emailed instead of being packed with the order.

Personal details are covered.
On charity stores, Customize donation gift messages replaces the status messages. Write a Gift sender message and a Gift receiver message, up to 160 characters each, sent by text message. Under Add variables to message, add the Sender name, Recipient name, Opportunity name, Association name or Gift card link, and check the result in Message preview. The field shows your remaining characters and SMS balance.
The additions on the older page depend on your plan. When your plan does not include them, the page shows an upgrade screen.
