Connect AI assistants to your Zid store with MCP

The Zid AI Connector | MCP app connects your store to AI assistants that support MCP (Model Context Protocol), such as ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, Codex and n8n. Once connected, you manage your store by writing to the assistant in plain language, for example "Show me last week's orders" or "Create a 20% coupon on all electronics for one week", and the assistant carries it out in your store and shows you the result.

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol: a secure, standard way to connect your store to an AI assistant so it can carry out tasks in your store in an orderly way. The app suits any Zid merchant who wants to run their store quickly by chat, especially without the time or technical background to move between dashboard screens: you talk, and the assistant acts. You need no technical skills or coding.

The app is free in the App market. It works with an assistant you already use; to chat with Zid's own assistant inside the dashboard, see Zid AI and Zid Assistant.

To use ChatGPT without an MCP link, add Zid's official app instead; see Manage your Zid store from ChatGPT.

What the assistant can do

The app gives the assistant about 145 tools, covering:

AreaExamples
Orders and shippingView and filter orders, change their status, manage returns
ProductsAdd and edit products, upload images, change prices
PromotionsCoupons, bundle offers and the loyalty program
InventoryStock across locations and low-stock alerts
CustomersCustomer details, loyalty points and abandoned carts
ReportsSales, growth, new customers and best-selling products

For example, you can tell the assistant "Make a 25% discount on all products with more than 100 in stock", and it does it without you opening the dashboard. You can also ask about your sales, your store's performance and trends, such as sales growth, new customers and best sellers, and get answers from your live data. It helps with SEO too: keywords, the keyword ratio of each product, and anything that improves the shopping experience.

What it can doWhat it can't do yet
Manage your products: add, edit, prices, descriptions and stockChange your themes, designs or store look
Manage orders and shipping, and follow their statusManage the apps installed in your store
Create and manage coupons and offersOpen dashboard pages or create them
Show analytics and reports on your sales and customersAnything outside the store data and functions its tools cover
Help with SEO and keywords for each product

The tools cover about 60% of your store's data and functions today, and more are added with each update.

Your store's MCP link gives full access to manage your store. Keep it like a password and never share it. Changes the assistant makes apply to your live store right away, so read what it plans to do before you confirm.

  1. Search the App Market for Zid AI Connector | MCP and open it.

  2. Click Activate, review the data the app can access, and click Activate application.

  3. Click Open App. The app opens inside the dashboard.

  4. Under Connect to your MCP Client, click Copy URL to copy your store's MCP server link.

If you started connecting from ChatGPT, the app's page shows Continue to ChatGPT instead of Open App once the app is installed. Click it to return to ChatGPT and finish there.

Every assistant asks for the same thing: a name for the connection and your MCP link. Their menus change often, so check the assistant's own help if a step doesn't match.

ChatGPT

The simplest way to use ChatGPT is Zid's official Zid | زد app, which needs no MCP link; see Manage your Zid store from ChatGPT. Follow these steps only to connect ChatGPT with your MCP link.

  1. In ChatGPT's settings, open Apps & Connectors, then the advanced settings, and turn on developer mode.

  2. Create a new connector. Give it a name, such as "Zid store", and a short description, paste your MCP link, and create it.

  3. In a new chat, click +, then More, and choose your connector.

Turn the connector on in each chat where you want to use it.

Claude

  1. In Claude's settings, open Connectors and add a custom connector.

  2. Enter a name, paste your MCP link, and add it.

  3. In the connector's settings, choose which tools Claude may use.

Free Claude plans allow one custom connector, and the server must be reachable on the public internet. Paste the link with its /mcp path at the end when Claude asks for it.

Cursor

  1. Open Cursor's settings (Cmd or Ctrl and comma), then Features > MCP, and click Add New MCP Server.

  2. Choose the SSE type when your link ends with /sse, enter a name and paste the link.

You can also add the server to Cursor's MCP configuration file, ~/.cursor/mcp.json, replacing YOUR_MCP_LINK with your link:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "zid-store": {
      "url": "YOUR_MCP_LINK"
    }
  }
}

Codex

Add the server from the terminal, replacing YOUR_MCP_LINK with your link:

codex mcp add zid-store --url "YOUR_MCP_LINK"

You can also add it by hand to Codex's ~/.codex/config.toml file. Then run codex mcp list to check that it was added.

n8n

  1. Create a workflow with a trigger, such as a chat trigger, and connect an AI Agent node to it.

  2. Add an MCP Client Tool and connect it to the AI Agent.

  3. In the tool's settings, paste your MCP link in Endpoint and choose the authentication method: Bearer, OAuth2 or none.

  4. Under Tools to Include, choose All, or pick the tools you want the agent to see.

Control and remove access

  • Every action needs the permissions you allow, and nothing happens outside them. Choose which tools an assistant may use, and the access level, in that assistant's connector settings.

  • To disconnect one assistant, remove the connector from it.

  • To cut off every assistant at once, deactivate the app in My apps.

Disconnecting stops the assistant's access to your store at once. For help with the connection or any question, contact the app's support team from its page in the App Market; they help you step by step.
