Automatic discounts and free shipping
An automatic discount, such as free shipping above an order value, applies in the customer's cart as soon as the order meets its rules, so customers don't need to type a code. You create it like any other discount in Marketing > Discounts, with Automatic as the applied method.
Create an automatic discount
Go to Marketing > Discounts and select Create.
Choose Custom discount, or a template that's automatic by default:
Free shipping offer: free shipping from a minimum purchase amount.
Payment method discount: a percentage off when the customer pays with the methods you choose.
Progressive discount: a discount that grows with the cart value or quantity. See Progressive discounts.
Under Applied method, choose Automatic. The Code field disappears.
Set the discount type, products, settings, conditions and sales channels as for any discount. See Create a discount code.
Select Create.
In the discounts list, automatic discounts show Automatic under their name instead of a code. To list only them, filter Applying method by Auto applied in cart.
What automatic discounts can't do

Common automatic discounts

When discounts overlap
A cart takes one discount by default. This is what happens when discounts meet in the same cart:

Activate multiple discounts is in Checkout page options. Discounts marked Combinable in the list can be combined with another coupon discount.
Earlier, the dashboard had a separate automatic discounts page with three fixed offers: free shipping, an online payment discount and a mobile app discount. Those offers now appear in the discounts list with the Combinable badge, and you manage them like other discounts. They can't be removed with the Delete bulk action.
