Create a discount code
A discount gives customers money off their products, free shipping or free cash on delivery. Customers enter it as a discount code, or coupon, at checkout, or it applies automatically in the cart. You create discounts from Marketing > Discounts > Create.
You need permission to manage discounts. Coupon groups depend on your plan; when your plan doesn't include them, an upgrade icon appears next to the option.
Start a discount
Go to Marketing > Discounts and select Create.
In the Create new discount window, choose how to start:
Custom discount opens an empty form with full control over the conditions.
Progressive discount opens the tiered form. See Progressive discounts.
A template under Or select from the already built templates for quicker set up: opens the form with the template's values filled in.

Sample data from a demo store. Fill in the form sections described below. The Summary panel beside the form updates as you type; select Preview to hide or show it. Check it before you save.
Select Create.
The discount appears in the discounts list with the message Created successfully. If you try to leave the page with unsaved changes, the dashboard asks you to confirm first.
The same window opens from Discount coupon in the home page's add menu, and from the Create coupon quick action in the dashboard search. See Search and quick actions.
Templates
Each template fills in the form for a common offer. Its name gets the template name and the current date and time; change anything before you select Create.
| Template | Good for | Applied method | What it fills in |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free shipping offer | Reducing abandoned carts | Automatic | Free shipping with a minimum purchase amount of 150, and no products discount |
| Customer group discount | Rewarding VIP and loyal customers | Code | A random code, 15% off, a limit of 1 use per customer and a customer groups condition for you to choose groups |
| Discount on specific products | Clearing stock or promoting new products | Code | A random code, 20% off up to 500, applied to the products you select, and active for Mazeed, POS and the app too |
| Discount for specific category | Reviving categories that sell less | Code | A random code, 20% off up to 500, applied to the categories you select, and active for Mazeed, POS and the app too |
| Payment method discount | Steering customers to payment methods you prefer | Automatic | 5% off and a payment methods condition for you to choose the methods |
| Location-specific discount | Targeting customers in certain cities or regions | Code | A random code, 10% off up to 200 and a customer locations condition set to Saudi Arabia |
Amounts are in your store's currency.
Details

| Field | Rules |
|---|---|
| Name | Required, at least 3 characters. Internal name for tracking; not visible to customers. |
| Start date | Required. Today by default. Pick a later date to schedule the discount: it shows Scheduled in the list and starts on that date by itself. If you pick a start date after the end date, the end date moves to the same day. |
| End date | Required. One month from today by default. It can't come before the start date, and a new discount can't end before today. |
Discount type
Turn on one or more of these under Discount type. You can combine them in one discount, such as 10% off with free shipping in the same code.
| Option | What it gives |
|---|---|
| Products discount | Money off the products. Choose Percentage or Fixed amount, then enter the value. On by default with Percentage. |
| Free shipping | The customer pays no shipping fee |
| Free cash on delivery | The customer pays no cash on delivery fee |
Rules for Products discount:
Discount percentage: required, from 0 to 100, with up to two decimal places.
Fixed amount: required, 0 or more, in your store's currency.
Maximum discount amount: optional, and only for percentages. The customer never gets more than this amount off, whatever the order total.
Turning Products discount off clears its value, so the discount gives only free shipping or free cash on delivery.
Applied method
| Method | How customers get the discount |
|---|---|
| Code | The customer types the code at checkout. Enter it in the Code field, which is required for this method. |
| Automatic | The discount applies in the cart when the order meets its rules, with no code. See Automatic discounts and free shipping. |
Code should consist of letters and numbers only, with no spaces. Select Choose random code to get a six-character code of capital letters and numbers.
Create a coupon group
A coupon group creates many unique versions of the code you entered, so each customer can get their own. Each version starts with your code and ends with extra characters, so they're easy to recognize: if you enter ABC, the codes look like ABCs6y4. Use it to give separate codes to an affiliate agency, or to the staff of a company you have an agreement with. One group holds up to 200 codes.
Choose Code as the applied method and enter the code.
Select Create a coupon group.
Enter the Number of discount codes: at least 2.
While a coupon group is on, Automatic and Choose random code are unavailable.
Product eligibility
Choose which products the discount applies to under Eligibility type:
| Option | Meaning |
|---|---|
| All products | Every product. If no additional conditions or settings are added, the coupon applies to all products. |
| Include specific products | Only the products you select |
| Exclude specific products | Every product except the ones you select |
| Include specific categories | Only products in the categories you select |
To select products or categories, choose Add products or Add categories, tick them in the window and save. Use Add under the table to add more. Only published products can be selected. Changing the eligibility type clears your selection.
Tick Exclude discounted products to leave out products that already have a sale price. It works with any eligibility type.
Settings
Each setting is off until you tick it. Unticking a setting removes its value. A limit you leave off doesn't apply: without Total usage limit or Limit per customer, the discount can be used any number of times.

| Setting | Rules |
|---|---|
| Total usage limit | Whole number. The most times all customers together can use the discount. |
| Limit per customer | Whole number. How many times one customer can use the discount. |
| Minimum purchase amount | The lowest product subtotal, including VAT, an order needs for the discount to apply. It can't be more than the maximum purchase amount. |
| Maximum purchase amount | The highest order value the discount applies to. It can't be less than the minimum purchase amount. |
| Maximum weight (in grams) | The heaviest order that still gets free shipping. Available only when Free shipping is on. |
For example:
A Total usage limit of 100 stops the discount after its hundredth use, whoever used it.
A Limit per customer of 2 lets each customer use the code twice.
A Minimum purchase amount of 200 applies the discount only when the products in the cart reach 200 riyals.
A Maximum purchase amount of 1,000 stops the discount once the cart goes above 1,000 riyals.
A Maximum weight (in grams) of 5000 keeps free shipping for orders up to 5 kilograms, so heavier orders pay for shipping.
Conditions
Conditions limit the discount to certain customers, places, shipping or payment methods. You can add up to four conditions, one of each type.
Open Conditions and choose the Condition logic:
Strict (all conditions): the discount works only when the cart meets every condition. This is the default.
Flexible (any condition): the discount works when the cart meets at least one condition.
For example, with a Customer locations condition for Riyadh and a Customer groups condition for your VIP group, Strict (all conditions) gives the discount only to VIP customers in Riyadh, while Flexible (any condition) gives it to every customer in Riyadh and to VIP customers anywhere.
Select Add new condition.
Choose the condition's Type, then choose whether to include or exclude, and pick the values. For Customer locations, select Edit next to Select cities and choose the countries and cities.
Repeat for more conditions. Use the bin icon to remove one, and Expand all or Collapse all to manage long lists.

| Type | Include or exclude | Values |
|---|---|---|
| Customer locations | Including countries and cities or Excluding countries and cities | Countries and cities |
| Customer groups | Including customer groups or Excluding customer groups | Your customer groups |
| Shipping methods | Including shipping methods or Excluding shipping methods | Your store's shipping methods |
| Payment methods | Including payment methods or Excluding payment methods | Your store's payment methods |
Including limits the discount to the values you pick; excluding gives it to everyone else. For example:
Customer locations: include Riyadh to give the discount only to customers in Riyadh, or exclude Riyadh to give it to customers everywhere except Riyadh.
Customer groups: include your VIP group so only its members get the discount.
Shipping methods: include one carrier so the discount applies only when the customer ships with it, or exclude that carrier.
Payment methods: include cash on delivery so only customers who pay on delivery get the discount, or exclude it so only customers who pay another way do.
To build customer groups, see Customer groups.
Sales channels
Choose where the discount works. Each channel has its own switch.

| Channel | Notes |
|---|---|
| Online store customers | On by default |
| Merchant App | Customers who order from your store's mobile app |
| Mazeed customers | Customers who order through Mazeed. Changing it needs permission to manage Mazeed. Mazeed customers can use the code even when Mazeed doesn't feature it in its app. See Sell on Mazeed. |
| Branch customers (POS) | Appears when your store has Zid POS and the applied method is Code. Changing it needs permission to view POS. |
| Branch staff (POS) | Appears after you turn on Branch customers (POS). Lists the code in the Zid POS app, so cashiers can pick it and apply it at payment |
Note
Open Note to add a Discount note for your staff. Customers don't see it.
Examples
| Offer | How to set it up |
|---|---|
| Free shipping on orders of 200 riyals or more | Start from Free shipping offer. It's already Automatic with Free shipping on; change Minimum purchase amount to 200. |
| 20% off for your VIP customers with a code | Start from Customer group discount. Set Products discount to 20 under Percentage, enter a code such as VIP20, and choose your VIP group in the Customer groups condition. Build the group first in Customer groups. |
| A discount for customers in Riyadh or in a VIP group | Start from Custom discount. Add a Customer locations condition with Riyadh and a Customer groups condition with your VIP group, then choose Flexible (any condition) so either one is enough. |
