Sell in store with Zid POS

Zid POS (ZidPOS) is Zid's cashier and point of sale system for selling in your branches, kiosks and exhibitions. Your cashiers sell from the ZidPOS app, while products, stock, customers, orders and reports stay in sync with your online store in one dashboard. Open it from Channels > POS. To bring your POS sales into your accounting system, connect an accounting app from the App Market.

You need the POS staff permission to open the POS pages. The figures and charts on the POS home page also need the POS reports permission; without it, the page shows a Zid pos reports card with a permission message instead.

Discover Zid POS

If your store hasn't activated Zid POS yet, Channels > POS opens an introduction page:

Get started with Zid POS

The How to get started card lists four steps:

  1. Activate your plan: activate the free POS Go plan or subscribe to POS Pro. See POS Go and POS Pro plans.

  2. Download ZidPOS App: install the app on the device your cashiers will use, from the links on the page. See Use the ZidPOS app.

  3. Assign Cashiers: set up your cashiers and link each one to the right inventory location. See Cashier licenses.

  4. Make Your First Sale: sign in to the app and create your first invoice. See Make a sale.

POS Go needs Zid Pay to be active on your store. POS Pro is a paid subscription per cashier license. See Zid Pay and POS Go and POS Pro plans.

Prepare your products and stock

The ZidPOS app sells from an inventory location. When a cashier signs in, they choose the location they sell from, and the app shows that location's products and quantities. A location serves your points of sale when Zid POS is ticked under its Sales channels. See Warehouses and inventory locations.

To keep a branch's stock separate from your online stock:

  1. Add an inventory location for the branch and tick only Zid POS under Sales channels. See Add a location.

  2. Set each product's quantity in that location, on the product page or for many products at once in Stock management.

  3. Assign the branch's cashiers to the location. See Assign cashiers to a branch.

Sales in the branch then take stock only from that location, and online orders don't draw on it.

POS invoices follow your store's VAT settings. Check them in VAT settings before your first sale.

Give your staff access to the ZidPOS app

On POS Pro, each staff member who sells signs in to the app with their own account, so every sale and session is recorded under their name.

  1. Go to Settings > Store > Team, and add the staff member with Create, or Add a team member when the team is empty, or open an existing one.

  1. Tick POS cashier user, and enter the four-digit passcode they will use in Password, or select the refresh icon to generate one.

  1. On the POS app permissions (ZidPOS) tab, choose what they can do in the app.

  2. Select Save.

The staff member receives an invitation by email. In the ZidPOS app, they sign in with their email and password, choose their cashier and inventory location, and enter their passcode. You sign in with your own account and the passcode set in Account settings. If a staff member forgets their passcode, open them on the team page and select the eye icon in Password to show it. See Sign in to the app.

POS cashier user depends on your plan; on POS Go, only the owner account signs in to the app. Staff who only have POS app permissions don't use a team seat. See Team members.

Offer discount codes at the POS

On POS Pro, cashiers can apply your store's discount codes to a sale.

  1. Create a discount with the applied method Code, or open an existing one. See Create a discount code.

  2. Under Sales channels, turn on Branch customers (POS) so the code works at your points of sale.

  3. Turn on Branch staff (POS) as well to list the code in the app, so cashiers can pick it while taking payment.

  4. Save the discount.

Automatic discounts don't apply at the POS: the POS channels are hidden when the applied method is Automatic.

When a change doesn't appear in the app

The ZidPOS app syncs your products, payment methods and other store data from the dashboard. If something you changed doesn't show in the app:

  • Check that the cashier signed in to an inventory location that serves Zid POS, and that the product has stock there.

  • If your store sells in markets, check that the product's Zid POS switch under Channels is on. See Show product.

  • Sync the data from the app's settings, choosing what to sync, such as products or payment methods. Syncing products can take two to five minutes, depending on how many you have. See Keep the app in sync.

Read your POS home page

Once Zid POS is active, Channels > POS opens the POS home page, titled ZidPOS.

  1. Go to Channels > POS.

  2. Pick a period in the date field at the top of the page. The page opens on the current week.

  3. Read the figures for that period:

FigureMeaning
SalesTotal value of POS sales.
TransactionsNumber of POS transactions.
Cash amountTotal paid in cash.
Credit card amountTotal paid by card.

Below the figures:

  • POS sales by location compares sales across your inventory locations (branches).

  • POS sales by cashier user compares sales made by each staff member who signs in to a cashier.

  • The Sales table shows your latest POS sales. When there are more than five, click View all to open POS sales.

Find the POS pages

When Zid POS is active, or your store is on a trial, POS in the sidebar expands into these pages:

PageWhat you do there
