Connect Google Analytics and Tag Manager to your Zid store
Google Analytics tells you who visits your store and how they found it, and Google Tag Manager lets you add tracking codes and widgets to your store without touching your theme. Each has a free app in the App market; search for its name or open the Tracking & Attribution category.
| Tool | What it does for your store | What you add in Zid |
|---|---|---|
| Google Analytics | Reports on visitors, traffic sources, devices, behavior and sales | Your measurement ID, which starts with G- |
| Google Tag Manager | Adds and manages tags, such as tracking codes and widgets, from one Google account | Your container ID, which starts with GTM- |
Use a Google account that belongs to your business, and the same one for every Google tool, so they can link to each other. Two related guides use the same account: List your products on Google with Merchant Center and Verify your store in Google Search Console.
Connect Google Analytics
Google Analytics is a free Google service that shows you:
Performance and sales: visitor numbers, sales and your best-selling products.
Customer behavior: how customers interact with your store.
Marketing results: the effect of your campaigns.
Conversion rates: where shoppers drop out before they buy.
Custom reports built around what you need to know.
Your audience: visitors' locations and demographics.
Where your store can improve.
The Google screens below are in Arabic; Google shows the same steps in English when your account is set to English.
Sign in to Google Analytics and create an account, preferably named after your store. Under Account details, enter the account name and choose the data sharing settings.

Under Property creation, enter your store's name as the property name, then choose its time zone, country and currency.

Under Business details, choose your business category and size.

Choose your business objectives for using Google Analytics, then click Create.

In the Google Analytics terms of service, choose your country and click I Accept.

Choose Web as the platform you collect data from.

Enter your store address and a name for the data stream, then create the stream. Enter the address without
https://, since the field already starts with it.

Copy the measurement ID shown in the stream's details. It starts with
G-.

In your Zid dashboard, open Apps > App Market and search for Google Analytics. Open the app and click Activate.
Paste the ID in Account code on the App activation card and click Activate.
Analytics starts collecting data from your next visitor. Open its real-time report and visit your store from another device to see the visit arrive.
Connect Google Tag Manager
Tag Manager holds your tracking codes in a container. Once the container is on your store, you add, change or remove codes in Tag Manager without changing anything in Zid.
Sign in to Google Tag Manager and click Create Account.

Under Account Setup, enter the account name and country. Under Container Setup, enter a container name, such as your store address, and choose Web as the target platform.

Click Create.

Read the Google Tag Manager terms of service, tick the box to accept the data processing terms, then click Yes.

Your container opens. Copy the container ID at the top of the workspace. It starts with
GTM-.

In Zid, open the Google Tag Manager app from the App Market and click Activate.
Paste the ID in Account code and click Activate.
Everything you publish in Tag Manager loads on your storefront and shows to customers right away. For example, a WhatsApp button or a live chat window you add through Tag Manager appears on your store's pages without any other change. Tag Manager needs some technical knowledge, so use it with care: every code loads each time a page opens, and too many, unneeded or heavy codes slow your store down. Remove tags you no longer use. For Snapchat and TikTok, use their apps in Zid instead of Tag Manager: they track more accurately. See Connect Meta, TikTok, Snapchat and X pixels.
Tags, triggers and variables
| Element | What it is |
|---|---|
| Tag | A piece of code that sends information to another system, for example to track what visitors do or to add a button to your storefront. |
| Trigger | A rule that decides when a tag runs. It watches for events, such as clicks, and runs every tag linked to it when an event matches its conditions. |
| Variable | A named value that fills in automatically when the code runs, such as the page address. Tags and triggers use variables to decide what to do. |
Add a tag to your store
This example adds a WhatsApp button by pasting the code a chat tool gives you. Any other tool works the same way.
In your workspace, click Add a new tag.

Click the pencil on Tag Configuration.

Choose the tag type. If the tool you're adding is in the list, choose it; otherwise choose Custom HTML.

Paste the tool's code in the HTML box.

To show the tool on every page of your store, click the pencil on Triggering.

Tick All Pages and click Add.

Click Save.

Name the tag after the tool and click Save.

Click Submit.

Add a name and description for this version if you like, then click Continue, or Skip.

Click Publish.

The tool appears in your store 10 to 15 minutes after you publish.
Find your way around Tag Manager
Tag Manager has three tabs: Workspace, Versions and Admin.

Workspace is where you build your container:
| Section | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Overview | A summary of the latest changes to your tags. |
| Tags | Your tags, to add, edit or delete them. |
| Triggers | Your triggers, to add, edit or delete them. |
| Variables | Built-In Variables, ready-made by Google and common in tags, and User-Defined Variables that you create. |
| Folders | Groups that keep your tags, triggers and variables organized. |
| Templates | Your own tag and variable definitions, which your team can use alongside Tag Manager's ready-made templates. |

Versions lists every version you published, with how many tags, triggers and variables each has and when it went live.

Admin manages the account and the container: their settings, recent activity, and the people who can use them.

Give your team access to Tag Manager
In the Admin tab, click User Management. The list shows everyone who can access your Tag Manager.
Click + to add a user.

Enter the new user's email address.

Choose their permissions, then click Invite.

The four container permissions build on each other:
| Permission | What the person can do |
|---|---|
| Read | View tags, triggers and variables without changing them. |
| Edit | Also create workspaces and edit tags, triggers and variables. |
| Approve | Also create container versions, ready to publish. |
| Publish | Also publish versions to your store. It includes all the other permissions. |
The person you invite accepts the invitation from the email Google sends them.
If the data doesn't appear
| Problem | What to check |
|---|---|
| Analytics shows no visits | The ID in Zid starts with G- and belongs to the stream for your store address. Click Edit to fix it. |
| A Tag Manager tag doesn't run | The latest version of the container is published, and the tag has a trigger. |
| Your store got slower | Remove tags you no longer use, and check heavy codes, such as chat widgets, one by one. |
